No longer banished to the dark, isolated, disused corners of the humble abode, those who work from home can now do so in style thanks to the architecturally-designed Backyard Room which made its debut at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show earlier this year.
Essentially a prefabricated pod which comes flat-packed and delivered to your door, the Backyard Room is an innovative solution for the throngs of Australians who are now working from home, allowing people to essentially set up their home office or studio in their own backyard.
The latest brainwave from the creative team at Archiblox, the Backyard Room uses passive solar design, sustainable materials and energy efficiency to deliver a minimum of a six star energy rating, according to co-founder, Bill McCorkell.
‘ These days whether people are working from home starting their own business or doing creative projects, we know the importance of having a space that is removed from the hustle and bustle of the family home. At Backyard Room we are offering that space which is architecturally designed, sustainable and cost effective.’
The most compact design starts from just $15,840 for a 5.28sqm ‘’WorkPad’, which is less than the cost of a few months’ rent for many start-ups or small business owners, and ranges upwards of $68,000 for the more serious multi-person studio spaces.
The rooms can then be completely customised throughout the interiors with a number of extras to choose from including a mezzanine, study desk, bookshelves, kitchenette, powder room or store room, among many others.
The backyard room can even become an extension of your garden’s plantable surfaces, with this year’s MIFGS design showcasing the possibilities of rooftop gardening, simply by adding a few extra bits and bobs and including a ladder for easy access.
A fascinating insight into the possibilities of working remotely or working from home, the Backyard Room offers style, innovation and creativity all in one. Oh, and an excuse to get back into your garden more often as well.
