When the Hong Kong-based global hotel company, Hind Group, sought to enter the Australian market with their first hotel project in 2012, they enlisted the help of HASSELL to bring their vision to life.
The architect and interior design firm took to the task of transforming the drab existing serviced apartment complex into a boutique hotel in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, pitched at tech-savvy professionals and entrepreneurs.
A dim-lit reception lobby and the dark, mysterious hallways provide a sense of hidden adventure, but when the doors open to the hotel rooms the aesthetic instantly changes to a light, bright interior within.
Using a neutral colour palette and elements of high-design, you could be forgiven for thinking you are in an architect’s bedroom such is the departure from the typical hospital-type interiors of hotels gone by.
Uncluttered and bright, minimal and functional, the rooms can be reconfigured to the guests’ desire thanks to the clever use of designer furniture and custom joinery.
Fresh white tiling and light ash timber accents in the bathrooms are refreshing and bright, allowing the design to speak for itself in these restored hotel interiors.
Playing on the site’s location in the guts of Melbourne’s hidden laneways, emerging artist, Ashley Ng has collaborated on the hotel’s art installations to bring a sense of Melbourne’s vibrant street culture inside these four walls.
