Sitting pretty in one of Hawthorn’s ever-so-cute boutique shopping strips, ‘Swoon’ brings fashion and design together in one retail space.
A collaborative venture between fashion designer friends, Keegan Hunt and Brahman Perera, Swoon’s interiors meld old-world charm with recycled chic, starting with the neck-achingly high ceilings and antique detailing – a pleasant surprise for the owners while stripping away the plaster board and artificial ceiling left behind from the site’s previous incarnation.
The clothing racks have been fashioned out of recycled plumbing pipes complete with rusted old tap heads and accentuated by a simple yet bold blackboard wall which bares the names of the store’s many designers.
Elsewhere, exposed red bricks complete with bricked-in window arches remind us how old this shopping strip really is, while adding another dimension to the shop’s interiors.
There’s a lot to love about Swoon, and with both Keegan and Brahman’s past experience as fashion designers in their own right along with a stint in architecture for one of them, it’s not hard to see where the shop’s creative stylings have emerged from.
