Welcome to the September Club- Located in Yarra Park outside the Melbourne Cricket Ground, this space is transformed into AFL’s premium hospitality precinct every Grand Final day. Filled with sponsor marquees hosting functions for their clients, this event is enjoyed pre and post game by 1500 industry people and football personalities.
Husband and wife super-team Joby and Carolyn Blackman are Vivid Designs – the brains and creativity behind the transformation of the space. 2013 was their 8th year managing the installation and their contextual approach to landscape design shines though in their finished masterpiece.
The brief was to create something different to past years and certainly succeeded with their oriental-inspired theme to create an inviting and fun place to celebrate the AFL’s last day in September.
The entrance features an amazing floral display designed by Vivid and constructed by Box Hill Institute’s floristry teachers and students. Green bamboo sticks were arranged in an abstract formation, filled with beautiful hanging pink carnation flower bombs peppered with barely-there fairy lights. This entrance was then styled with black pebbles and luscious green foliage.
To the interiors and Vivid worked with Semken landscaping to construct the build while the top quality plants were supplied by Warners Nurseries and other local suppliers. A painted black timber walkway was framed by planter boxes in a zigzag design. Rustic screen panels made by Lump sculpture studio provided a stunning visual spectacle to the garden-centric interiors, surrounded by pretty pink impatience, while several Bamboo structures with hanging paper lanterns added to the theme.
Vivid Designs and their team created a spectacular environment for the celebration for the AFL Grand Final day. The design and fit out was filled with oriental decorations, colours, plants and modern abstract pieces in a true oriental spectacle for the guests to enjoy. With such a successful theme under their belt and a brand new year to plan for, who knows what this talented team has in store for the lucky few who will attend this year’s September event.
